199 Farewell to a Friend

Allen kneeled beside Lewis who was coughing blood. "It's okay, Lewis. You're still fine."

"I'm not," Lewis chuckled as he coughed blood. "Pinch me, Allen. Please, pinch me while I'm still alive."

With a heavy heart, Allen inflicted damage to Lewis. This made the man smile. "Your allies are close, but your enemies are closer." These were the last words of Lewis as he slowly succumbed to his wounds and die.

Allen felt like he was deaf even when the notifications were in his head. He gained EXP and he also gaine Lewis's Codes, which includes one who was a Celestum.

"I'm sorry, Lewis," Allen cried. "I'm sorry."

Meanwhile, the man who killed Lewis was instantly subdued. He tried to get away by killing himself, but he was already trapped by Sebastian's chains.

Everyone headed to the Skill Altar building where the Bearers were gathered to talk about what happened just now. Allen and the rest of the non-Bearers were right outside a room and waited until they were called.

"Allen?" Allen heard Kyle behind him. He froze on the spot, slowly turning around and seeing Kyle, Irene, and Selena. "Is it really you?"

Allen's face softened. "Hello."

Not one second late, Allen felt warmth all over his body. His eyes widened after realizing that the warmth was from his friends, all three of them enveloping him with a warm embrace.

"I can't believe it's really you!" Selena cried. "You don't know how much it was a loss for us."

"I'm sorry," Allen cried. "After Alice died, my mind became hazy, my memories all altered. I thought no one cared for me. I grew darker and darker every day."

"We're sorry if we didn't take care of you enough," Selena cried. "We too had fault here. It wasn't only you, Allen."

They continued to cry as they finally reunited. It wasn't only after a couple of minutes later that their sobbing finally stopped and it was time to report to the Board Officials of the Hunters organization.

"Are you okay now?" Jeremy asked Allen to which the latter answered with a nod.

"I have never felt better, thanks," Allen replied. "Now, let's report everything."

Inside the room where it was used a sa conference room in the camp, there was a long table that could seat up to thirty chairs. Each chair had either a Board Official or a representative that would relay the information to the official.

The Bearers who were present were only Bernard, Remy, and Lin while all the members of the Snake Society were present. This amused Allen, especially knowing that they were there because of his name.

The reports that was spread on the media had his name, Dante Reed, on the list of the ones who were attacked by the Serrata. Of course, no one from the Media knew why they were attacked so the part where they all had Celestums weren't included.

"Alright, let's start," Genesis said. "Mr. Dante Reed. You were the final person to face Mr. Lewis Nixon before he was killed by his ally, is that correct?" Allen nodded. "Then, did Mr. Nixon said anything to you or gave anything?"

"Nothing in particular," Allen said. He swore to himself that he would hide the fact that Lewis did tell him a clue about who Roger Huntsman was. At least, that's how he interpreted the words of Lewis.

Someone who was close to him was a traitor. And he already had his eyes on who it might be.

"Alright," Genesis dropped the questions after Allen answered, making a woman raise her hand in obection.

She was a Board Official which was part of the Snake Society, so she was either a part of Barandilla or neither. "How can you stop the questions just like that when this boy might be the only lead we have to the late chairman's death."

"But he said that he didn't know anything," Genesis said. "What do you expect for us to do?"

Allen wanted to laugh at how obvious Genesis's bias was. He could at least try to ask more questions, but he didn't.

"Well.." the woman trailed off. She then glaced at Allen and cleared her throat. "Then, did you see anything in particular that would lead us to whoever the Roger Huntsman is?"

Allen shook his head. "The people who attacked us were also just Hunters. There weren't anything that was particularly special with them apart from the fact that they attacked us without remorse."

The woman was silent, but Lin had to ask something. "And you're crying. Why is that?"

"It's because I was hurt," Allen said. "When I fought Lewis, he unfortunately damaged my eye and now it keeps on hurting."

"Alright," Lin said. "I have no more questions."

It was obvious from the looks of the other Board Officials that they were confused. The investigation would start after the interview, but they expected to milk more information regarding the attack apart from those simple questions.

This was also because Bernard and Remy offered to report to them since they were on the attack and saw everything first hand. The Board Officials agreed to it, so now they are left with the investigation.

After a while, Allen and the rest were released from the conference room. They immediately ran to the morgue where Lewis's body was.

"We have to give him a proper burial," Allen said. "Lewis was still the big brother and leader to us."

"I agree," Selena said. "I'll go talk to the morgue owner now."

A few hours of processing Lewis's death, his body was released but it was in a coffin. Kyle and Allen dug a hole right by the forest in Haven where Lewis mentioned that it was his favorite spot to relax.

This was back in the day where Alice was still alive and their lives were still filled with joy. Allen and his friends could only remember those times of happiness.

"You may now relax, Lewis," Allen said as he placed a bouquet of flowers on the grave. "You can finally relax now. Thank you for everything."
