The Assassin’s Enemy Lover

Chapter 267

267 Unexpected betrayal

Within the loud echoes and screeches coming from the cave, Yi Chen heard the gunfire and his heart instantly dropped. The creatures that had been circling around their female that was on the verge of labor suddenly lost their rhythm and began to fly haphazardly and chaotic before leaving the cave and heading in the direction where the gunfire came from.

Without much thought, Yi Chen tossed a fire star at the entrance before drawing out a laser shield able to withstand the explosion. The fire star split into three and a series of explosions rang one after the other collapsing the cave entrance. Ear-piercing screeches and cries filled the space as dust rose and debris flew in all directions. Chunks of flesh and blood mixed with the dust splattered everywhere.

Yi Chen’s breathing quickened as he slowly opened his eyes ready for conflict. Now that he had locked himself up with these creatures then he would have to fight his way out of this.

He rose to his feet with the protective shield surrounding him. With an energy rifle in hand, he began to listen as he scanned his surroundings vigilantly.

In no time a loud whistling sound like something sharp was piercing the air drew his attention. From within the cloud of dust, a pointed vine with barbs at its tip shot out and attacked his protective shield. Yi Chen pulled the trigger and accurately struck the vine followed by bloodcurdling shrieks as it withdrew.

Soon multiple whistles filled the air as numerous vines shot out at the same time. Yi Chen checked the roof of the cave judging if his mech would be able to fit in this place. Seeing that it would he summoned Raylan as he leaped into the cloud of dust grasping as many of those vines in one arm.

Bam! Thud!

That was the sound of the queen’s body being slammed into the cave wall after it was grasped by its vines. Because it was on the verge of giving birth it was especially vulnerable.

It let out a grievous battle cry and the remaining deadly phantoms gathered into three giant Caspers before attacking Yi Chen.

.....

Yi Chen was more than prepared. He fought back extensively not forgetting to take advantage of the opportunity to fire at the female’s elongated abdomen. Fearing for their female one of the deadly phantoms blocked the sizzling balls of energy shot from the laser cannon with its body ultimately sacrificing itself.

Angered by this the other creatures rushed over their attacks ten times more vicious than before making sure not to give Yi Chen another chance.

Outside the cave, things weren’t any better either. Chaos ensued but at least most of the people had managed to leave the underground tunnels. Because it was too chaotic they, unfortunately, had some casualties.

Hela who was reluctant to leave Zi Han behind stared at the entrance they had just exited from and spoke to him through the open channels asking, “Where are you?”

Zi Han who had blown up another one of the tunnels to prevent them from being pursued was fighting through the ranks of the deadly phantoms with one goal in mind which was to get to Yi Chen.

“Blow it up,” he replied as he stood with his back on a tunnel wall with his finger on the trigger ripping through the deadly phantoms.

“But I,” she said only for Zi Han to shut her down.

With sweat dripping down his forehead to his cheeks before disappearing inside his collar he said, “Now Hela!” That’s because these creatures were so eager to get to their meals that they began to ram into the tunnel walls trying to create another exit.

Some did manage to break through and after ten or so flew out Zi Han tossed a disc-shaped device at the holes on the walls and a laser-like net appeared to cover the holes. The creatures that were trying to escape were turned to mince meat the moment they flew straight into the net.

Hela was still hesitant when she heard that familiar screech heading toward them. It was at that moment that the decision was made for her.

“Blow it up! Blow it up now!” she commanded and the cave entrance lit up like fireworks in an instant.

A few deadly phantoms managed to navigate through the dust and rocks tumbling down. Four or five of them escaped only to be met by heavy fire before they could disappear.

Meanwhile, Zain and Omari exploded both tunnel entrances simultaneously. The two entrances were the one in the temple and the one in the back room that that boy was living in.

The force of the explosions destabilized the caves and tunnels causing Zi Han to lose his balance.

As he fell a creature took advantage of it, clawing at his abdomen leaving behind deep cuts. Zi Han grimaced in pain but it didn’t affect his thinking. His gaze fell on the laser-like net that was preventing the creatures from escaping.

Licking his canine tooth with the tip of his tongue he pulled out a handful of those nets and tossed them to the group of deadly phantoms.

Soon an interconnected net barrier separated him from the deadly phantoms buying him time. The creatures dumbly moved forward. After two or three of them were turned into chunks of meat they stopped pressing forward and watched Zi Han with eyes filled with hatred.

“Iggy, burn a hole into that fuckin wall,” he said but Igneous responded,

“Sir, you can’t activate the mech in this small space. I recommend using heavy artillery like an archer heavy rocket.

Zi Han grimaced while taking out the recommended weapon. “What would happen if you engage here?” he asked Igneous.

“The mountain will collapse and Mr. Yi would be buried alive if his mech isn’t activated.”

Zi Han’s heart lurched hearing this. With a loud explosive force, Zi Han blew up a hole in the wall, and as soon as the rocks stopped falling he climbed up the debris and left. Meanwhile, the creatures aggressively rammed the walls again to get to him.

“Chen-ge, can you hear me?” asked Zi Han as he ran through the tunnels.

Yi Chen, who was getting pressed on the ground by the deadly phantom that had merged into one threatening to bite off the head of his mech replied, “I am here. Are the tunnels clear?”
