Forsaken by the Gods

3 Chapter Three: Nothing Special

I run as fast as I can, stealing a sword from the Crimson Wolf's house. I'm sure she wouldn't mind, she has at least twenty of them.

"And just where are you going?"

I freeze, swiftly placing the sword behind my back.

"Where else?"

There was an ice in my voice I didn't even know I possessed. Part of me felt really bad about taking it out on her, especially since she saved me. However, the only thing I can think about is that beast killed my friend.

"And how exactly are you going to get there? How exactly are you going to get your revenge? You don't know where you are, and you're a weak human. Are you thinking the demons will just let you slaughter them? Do you not remember what happened just yesterday?! Yet you plan to go into a demons nest."

She stood with a raised eyebrow, and a hand on her hip. As she spoke, her butler stood a few steps behind her, observing me in pure curiosity.

"My best friend is dead, because I thought I was helping. I don't care if I die, if it means I can kill even one of those disgusting things!"

"You don't care if you die?"

I paused at the sound of Kana's voice. She was not supposed to hear that, but how can I not feel that way. If it wasn't for me, her brother would still be alive.

"No I don't. If it wasn't for me, Dan would still be alive."

"You don't get to do that! Me and Dan followed you because we wanted to. Dan died protecting us! You don't get to make his sacrifice be for nothing by just dying!"

Tears filled her eyes, her chest heaving in frustration. I had never seen her so upset before.

"I'm still going. Dan died protecting me, then I'll avenge him, or die trying."

"Then I'm going too. He's m- was my brother."

"You two really are stupid," Emiya announces with a sigh in her voice. "Fine, we will accompany you. It's clear you two have a death wish, and I have a thing about watching humans run foolishly to their deaths. You're welcome to keep that sword. It won't do you much good if you can't use it, but at least you will have some protection."

"Thank you," I respond, clamping the sword on my left hip. It feels as if it's natural.

"Just one question before we do leave, what are you? Most humans would have lost their minds, or even died after an encounter like that, as your friend did."

"Me? I'm nothing special."

With that statement I make my way toward the door, Emiya, her butler, and Kana following closely behind.
