Forsaken by the Gods

4 Chapter Four: Rage

We didn't get there the way I expected us to. In fact it was so far fetched, I had to continually remind myself that this was not a dream. As I got ready to run, Emiya stopped me, Benson stepping forward. In an ancient language, unfamiliar to me, he began to chant, a mass of pure energy forming in front of us. Kana, clearly terrified, now stood frozen before it.

A part of me understood her hesitation, the other part wished she would have stayed. Kana was never athletic to begin with, nor was she brave. I want to tell her to stay behind, in hopes that she'll survive, but she is seventeen, and an adult, so I cannot stop her from doing what she pleases. Even if that means she may die.

The thought makes me want to smash everything in sight, losing my friends. We already lost her brother, and I silently promised myself I would see to it she leaves alive.

We arrived in complete silence, my mind whirling. I will kill them all if it's the last thing I live to do.

"We're here," Benson announces, coming to a complete stop, placing Kana on her feet. He had to carry her through the portal, due to her unwillingness to stay, and her inability to force herself through the orb of energy.

My heart stops when I see where we are. We are in front of my home. Why are demons gathering at my house?!

Emiya and Benson took a stand in front of us. Clearly they were no strangers to confrontation, making their way to the front door without a care in the world.

"You two are to wait-"

"Not happening," I cut her off, making my will be known. "This is my home, and if demons are here, that means my parents are in danger. I'm going in, and that's final."

The Crimson Wolf and her butler exchanged a glance, before nodding. Emiya draws her sword, promoting me to do the same, while Kana stood close behind me with a dagger.

Deciding that I should be the one to open the door, I step forward and let everyone in.

"No!" A loud shout leaves me, and I hardly recognize my own voice. Inside I see my mother and father before me, demons crowding my home. I walk toward my parents, my mother just barely alive, my father already dead. Before she passes, my mother whispers silently in my ear, before closing her eyes and joins my dad.

The sight before me causes a pain in my chest, and it feels as if a mark is being branded into my head as I kneel to the ground in agony.

Demons all around look at me bewildered, as my travel companions come to my aid. As I lift my head, a new source of power rushes through me as Emiya, Benson, and Kana eye me in shock.

"He has the mark!" One of the demons belts, as a horde of them begin to run toward me. Still crippled by the pain in my head, Emiya and Benson take a protective stance before me, but not before Kana rushes pass them, trying to kill one of the demons.

Instead, she is skewered by a spear being wielded by one of the creatures.

That did it for me, Kana falls, and lands lifelessly before me. I crawled towards her, tenderly holding her in my arms. With all my will power, I made it to my feet, the pain in my head now irrelevant.

All that mattered now was my rage.
